The Best Business Class Airlines Around the World, Ranked

This article originally appeared on Business Insider.

Over the past 12 months, I’ve experienced six different international business-class products thanks to my job as Insider’s aviation reporter. And — among this particular bunch — I’ve found that none of them are like the other.

My string of high-class flights started in September 2022 when I flew on Air New Zealand’s inaugural trek from New York to Auckland, which is now the world’s fourth-longest flight at about 18 hours.

I then flew on the world’s longest flight in January from Singapore to New York on Singapore Airlines, followed by a journey from Paris to Newark, New Jersey, on a little-known all-business-class airline named La Compagnie.

In March, I flew on Japan’s largest carrier, All Nippon Airways, in its famous “The Room” business class. In June, I tried out the German leisure carrier Condor’s new business class from New York to Frankfurt, Germany.

Most recently, I trekked 12 hours from Los Angeles to Seoul, South Korea, in Korean Air’s “Prestige” business class.

After experiencing each and having little experience flying in business class before, I realized how different each airline’s luxury product is — so much so that my favorite and least favorite are actually leagues apart.

Here’s how the six business-class cabins compare and their pros and cons, including privacy, food, lavatory design, and bed comfort. Insider paid a media rate for all of my flights.

The main thing I noticed about this group of six airlines was that not one truly resembled the other, each having distinct differences that would make or break the experience.

Current welcome offer on the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card

There are many reasons why we love the World of Hyatt program. But the major caveat is that these points can be a bit harder to earn than its hotel counterparts, such as Hilton Honors and Marriott Bonvoy, due to having fewer cobranded credit cards available in the program.

For a long time, Hyatt only had a consumer card (the World of Hyatt Credit Card), which offers terrific benefits for just $95 per year. However, we had hoped for a premium version or a business card to come down the line.

In October 2021, one of those two dreams became a reality with the launch of the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card — with a lucrative welcome offer and a reasonable $199 annual fee. And now, the best-ever offer is back on the card, with new cardholders earning up to 75,000 bonus points.

Let’s take a look at this new card offer.

Current World of Hyatt Business card welcome offer

Through Oct. 18, new World of Hyatt Business Credit Card applicants can earn 60,000 bonus points after spending $5,000 in the first three months of account opening, plus another 15,000 points after spending $12,000 in the first six months of account opening.

THE POINTS GUY

This matches the best-ever offer on the card, which ran for the first six months after its launch. Both that and the current welcome offer are for up to 75,000 bonus points. Note that the spending requirement is higher this time: $12,000 in six months instead of the previous $7,500 in three months.

These points can be used across the World of Hyatt portfolio, including brands like Park Hyatt and Andaz and a few hundred Small Luxury Hotels of the World properties. You can also use your points at nearly 60 all-inclusive properties.

The most confusing workplace jargon around the world, according to workers

Have you ever felt trapped in the unbroken loop of the circle-back? Maybe your bandwidth is strapped, your project’s goalposts have been moved, and you haven’t gotten to gain traction on your to-do list. Your team has faced just so many headwinds lately. Or tailwinds. Or maybe—just maybe—the corporate-speak of it all has you feeling like something’s been lost in translation.

A new report explains why workplace jargon has us all spinning our wheels (or, rather, expending a lot of effort without making much progress). The study, conducted by LinkedIn and Duolingo, surveyed 8,000 workers from eight countries about jargon we use on the job—and finds that globally, more than half (58%) of professionals think the people they work with use too much of it.

But even if you’re acquainted with management-speak, you might not know just how far it’s traveled. English business buzzwords have crossed borders—and in a globalized corporate world, they’ve become commonplace even in nations that don’t count English as one of its official languages. According to the report, they’re weighing down workers in offices from Bangalore to Bogotá.

“If you need any proof of the status of English in the business world, you can look to how English buzzwords get borrowed wholesale into workplaces that otherwise use another language for communication,” says Dr. Hope Wilson, senior learning and language curriculum expert at Duolingo, in an email to Quartz. “For example, even though there’s a Japanese word meaning ‘budget,’ yosan, the English-borrowing ‘bajetto’ is the most commonly used piece of jargon in Japan. And English words like ‘feedback’ and ‘networking’ are some of the most frequently-used buzzwords in Brazil.”

Top 4 Unbiased Independent World News Sources

This is a world where money seems to control journalistic integrity. Are there no unbiased news sources you can turn to anymore?

Unfortunately, finding unbiased news is as easy as finding a needle in a haystack. No matter where you turn, the news you read has some bias applied, be that by the owner of the outlet, the outright or unconscious bias of the reporter, unintentional bias from equally biased research papers, and so on.

MAKEUSEOF VIDEO OF THE DAYSCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT

So, can you really find unbiased, non-partisan news sources?

What Is Unbiased News?

Unbiased news is a news story presented factually, without any spin toward a political stance or to benefit the owners of the news outlet. In that, news carrying a bias usually comes with the opposite. You might read constantly positive news from a state news organization or policies financed by the state leadership. At other times, the news you read might be strongly biased towards a political leaning because it suits the site or news outlet owner.

There is no better example of this than the Xinhua News Agency, the mouthpiece of the Peoples Republic of China. Or the Telegraph Agency of the Soviet Union (TASS), the news agency owned by the Russian government. However, the US and other Western countries are not innocent. In the US and the UK, those controlling the journalists’ pens are corporate leaders rather than government leaders.

In the US, five corporate media giants control most of the US media market: Comcast, The Walt Disney Company, AT&T, Viacom, and Fox Corporation. The merging of media companies in multi-billion-dollar deals has concentrated ownership of media outlets into an ever-decreasing number of conglomerates.

As a prime example, in 1983, 50 companies controlled 90 percent of US media. In 2011,

Where did Reno rank on US News & World Report best cities?

A canopy of trees covers neighborhoods to the northwest of downtown Reno.

Another ranking for best cities in the United States is out, giving Reno one more opportunity to go toe-to-toe with other metro areas in the country.

US News & World Report just released its list of Best Places to Live in the U.S. in 2023-24, ranking 150 metro areas.

The report was released on the same day as the Milken Institute’s 2023 Best-Performing Cities list, where Reno ranked pretty high at 16th.

More:Reno rises in list of 2023 Milken best-performing cities but housing still a problem

So how did Reno do in the  US News & World Report rankings?

Well, in the words of today’s youth, Reno did “aight.”

Reno ranked 79th overall in the list with a score of 6.3 out of 10, which is about middle of the pack. To put that in perspective, the No. 1 overall city — Green Bay, Wisconsin — scored 6.9 out of 10. In short, while Reno’s ranking isn’t exactly great, it isn’t too bad, either.

If it’s any consolation, Reno did much better than its cross-state rival. Las Vegas ranked 136th out of 150 with an overall score of 5.7. Whatever US News & World Report’s equivalent of the Fremont Cannon is, it’s apparently staying in Northern Nevada for now.

So how does US News & World Report come up with its city rankings?

US News & World Report ranks cities based on several criteria such as quality of life, value, desirability and job market.

Here is what goes into each of the aforementioned criteria.

  • Quality of life: This includes metrics such as crime rates, commute times, healthcare availability and air quality. Reno actually ranked high in quality of life last year at No. 9 but dropped out of the top 25 entirely this year. The metric remains Reno’s highest

World Bank seeks grants, new capital to fight global crises

MANILA, May 23 (Reuters) – The World Bank will press for more grants and new capital from member countries, even as it leverages its balance sheet to scale up lending for responses to climate change and other global crises, its managing director of operations said on Tuesday.

The lender will rally donor support for a newly established crisis facility for the world’s poorest countries that face overlapping global crises, including severe climate events, Anna Bjerde said in an interview.

“We hope to be able to really conclude and have a very strong interest in funding this by the end of the year,” Bjerde said, adding that multiple billions of dollars were needed for the crisis facility.

That facility sits within the International Development Association (IDA) fund, the World Bank’s fund for the poorest countries. The last replenishment was fast depleted by the pandemic.

COVID-19 pushed many poor countries into debt distress as they were expected to continue servicing their obligations in spite of the massive shock to their finances.

Bjerde is hoping for major progress in courting interest in the facility at the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank in Morocco in October.

“We need to really get grants from developed and higher income countries, rich countries, to provide resource transfers to the lower income countries,” she said.

The World Bank, whose 25-member executive board on May 3 elected a new president, wants to increase lending to ensure it can better tackle issues such as climate change, pandemics and conflict.

“We need to continuously work on what we call under the evolution roadmap – a
