I Found a Second Job

Of course I know what happens in this city, we have tourists come here from all over the world and we entertain them however they want. It is Disney World for grown up people and of course we know that adults like sex. At any rate I recently learned about the escorts in salt lake city, although not as the person paying for it. In this case I am pretty sure that I am about ten tax brackets under the income required for this. This girl is incredibly beautiful and apparently she is already quite wealthy. I suspect that she must have shoeboxes full of cash in her closet to be honest. I am sort of her man servant it seems. She lets me stay in her guest house, which is bigger than the last apartment I had without the roommate drinking my beer. I drive her pick up truck when she has me run errands. When she is working I drive her around in a stretched Cadillac Escalade.

In fact she gave me a real interview when I applied for the job, but she apparently knew that I could kick a door in. I was in the Military Police when I was in the Army. She took me out behind her house in the desert and showed me four pistols. One of them was a really vintage Model 1911, I picked it up and hit five of the six bottles she had set up. She picked up another of the pistols and dropped the other. Then she sunbathed and made me swim laps in her pool to see how long I could do. The first time I worked we waited for a private jet to land. The guy had his own bodyguard and the two of us sat … Read More ...

We Have a Real Soap Opera at Work

There has always been drama on the upper floors of this place, there are two families who own most of the stock in the company. Neither has enough to fully control things, there are some other people who get to decide who to side with when it gets down to it. At any rate one faction has been trying to get rid of the president and they seem to have invented a scandal for the purpose. They started by hiring a woman who used to work for a las vegas asian girls, at least that is what the police seem to say. She must be around forty now I would guess and she managed to do exactly what they wanted her to do. The problem turns out to be that no one really cared. It turned out that he and his wife have been separated for a few months and never bothered to tell anyone about it.

Of course cheating on your wife is only a big deal if the wife cares about it. They seem to have made all the arrangements for an amicable (at least from the outside) divorce. The president was not the one who got the police involved, instead it was the former escort. She made a deal and did pretty much exactly what they wanted her to do, but without the desired result. So they foolishly decided that they did not have to pay. Right now we have a whole lot of people pointing their finger at other people, who just coincidentally happen to be their closest relatives. The reason is obvious, aside from the embarrassment. If you get caught doing it then it is probably some sort of crime and you have to get kicked out of the board for the sake of … Read More ...

Technology is changing how companies do business

In the fast-paced world of modern business, technology plays a crucial role in shaping how companies operate. One area where this impact is particularly significant is in the organization of production chains—specifically the way goods are made and distributed.

A new study from the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business advances understanding of the U.S. production chain evolution amidst technological progress in information technology (IT), shedding light on the complex connections between business IT investments and organizational design.

Advances in IT have sparked significant changes in how companies design their production processes. In the paper “Production Chain Organization in the Digital Age: Information Technology Use and Vertical Integration in U.S. Manufacturing,” which published April 30 in Management Science, Chris Forman, the Peter and Stephanie Nolan Professor in the Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, and his co-author delved into what these changes mean for businesses and consumers.

In running a manufacturing plant, a key decision is how much of the production process is handled in-house and how much is outsourced to other companies. This decision, known as vertical integration, can have big implications for a business. Advances in information and communication technology, such as those brought about by the internet, shifted the network of production flows for many firms.

Forman and Kristina McElheran, assistant professor of strategic management at University of Toronto, analyzed U.S. Census Bureau data of over 5,600 manufacturing plants to see how the production chains of businesses were affected by the internet revolution. Their use of census data allowed them to look inside the relationships among production units within and between companies and how transaction flows changed after companies invested in internet-enabled technology that facilitated coordination between them.

The production units of many of the companies in their study concurrently sold

Money blog: ‘Seismic shift’ for UK banks, as milestone passed today; is more expensive steak actually better for you? | UK News

It can be hard to balance the demands of eating well without spending a lot.

In this series, we try to find the healthiest options in the supermarket for the best value – and have enlisted the help of Sunna Van Kampen, founder of Tonic Health, who went viral on social media for reviewing food in the search of healthier choices.

In this series we don’t try to find the outright healthiest option, but help you get better nutritional value for as little money as possible.

This time we’re looking at meat.

“When it comes to which type of meat you buy, there’s a common misconception the more expensive the cut the healthier it is,” Sunna says.

“But fatty meat stores more nutrients than their lean counterparts – vitamins like A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble and stored in animal fat – so, a fillet steak may contain less nutrients than its fatty cousin,” he adds.

The science

We typically turn towards leaner cuts of meat due to the common belief that saturated fat from animals is something to be avoided.

“Yet, the latest science suggests that saturated fat and cholesterol may not be as harmful as researchers once thought they were,” Sunna says.

He points to a 2020 review in the National Library of Medicine that looked at several studies on saturated fat and heart disease – and found that the association between the two appeared to be weak.

That being said, a large amount of fat in your diet is in no way advisable – but don’t be afraid to introduce fattier cuts.

Mince

Sunna swears by mincemeat – preferring it to steak if choosing the fattier kind.

Most supermarkets sell somewhere between 5-20% versions – and Sunna urges shoppers to put the higher percentages in

Marketing Briefing: Backlash ‘a sign of the times’ as major brands like Apple and Bumble pull ads drawing ire

Creating an ad that will get noticed is a basic tenet of advertising. If marketers are going to shell out significant ad dollars for campaigns, they’re doing so with the hope of capturing consumer attention and moving the needle in whatever way will benefit the brand. But what happens if that provocative campaign has the opposite of its intended effect?

On Monday, dating app Bumble was the latest marketer to quickly pull its most recent ad campaign after online backlash surfaced. The company had rolled out billboards that told consumers, “a vow of celibacy is not the answer,” a message likely aimed at getting some women to reconsider dating despite the difficult romantic landscape. That message, which was reportedly created by its in-house team, was seen as tone deaf by some consumers who made it clear to the app via comments on its Instagram account and elsewhere that they didn’t not care for the campaign — not by a long shot.

Bumble wasn’t alone in navigating a recent marketing misstep. Last Thursday, Apple apologized for its latest iPad ad “Crush” — which was released just two days prior and swiftly met with its own wave of backlash. The ad featured a massive industrial crusher literally, well, crushing items associated with creative pursuits like a trumpet, piano, paint and more with the iPad shown as a stand-in of sorts for those many items. The ad, which again was made by Apple’s in-house agency, struck a nerve with the creative community as the tech giant’s ad seemed to signal that Apple is coming for creative jobs, especially with the looming threat of AI.

Apple’s decision to pull the ad was a surprise to many in the marketing community. “I think in general it speaks to the way that social media [responses] and

World of Hyatt Business Card Review: An obvious addition to your corporate wallet if you’re already booking Hyatt for business.

Our take: The World of Hyatt Business Credit Card may not be the single most rewarding business hotel credit card out there (that honor may go to the IHG One Rewards Business Premier), but if you’re already booking Hyatt stays for business, it’s an obvious addition to your corporate wallet. You and up to five employees will get 4X back on Hyatt purchases, 2X back on your spendiest categories each quarter (dining, flights etc.), instant Discoverist status and more—easily enough to offset the card’s $199 annual fee.

Pros

  • 4X back on Hyatt purchases.
  • Hyatt points are worth up to 2.3 cents each, meaning your welcome bonus could be worth over $1,500 in value towards future Hyatt stays.
  • Complementary Discoverist status for you and up to five employees means free Wi-Fi, late checkout and 10% bonus points for all.
  • Includes Trip Cancellation/Interruption, Baggage Delay Insurance, Lost Luggage Reimbursement, Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver and Purchase Protection.

Cons

  • Hyatt Bonus Points are really only good for future Hyatt purchases. There’s no cash back option and their value plummets with other redemption options (flights, rental cars etc.)
  • Hyatt’s footprint is 75% smaller than most competitor chains.
  • Other hotel business rewards cards are more… rewarding.

Card type: Business, Travel

  • Welcome Bonus: Earn 60,000 Bonus Points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening.
  • Annual Fee: $199
  • Rewards:
    • 9 points total per $1 spent at Hyatt – 4 Bonus Points per $1 when you use your card at Hyatt hotels & 5 Base Points per $1 from Hyatt as a World of Hyatt member

5 ways to improve your business with market research

Successful entrepreneurs use market research to keep up with trends, make better business decisions and maintain their company’s competitive edge. Regardless of whether you’re starting or expanding your business, research is vital to understanding your target markets and increasing sales.

Here are some specific areas where market research can help you build a stronger business.

1. Improve your branding

Many companies don’t have a good handle on their brand. They ask themselves: How do customers perceive us? How does our brand stack up against our competition?

You can use market research to improve your branding by exploring such subject as:

  • Brand awareness—Are customers aware and familiar with your brand?
  • Competitive comparisons—How do customers view your company compared to the competition?
  • Personification—What characteristics and traits do customers associate with your brand?

You can also survey customers to gather feedback on marketing content such as logos, brochures, websites, etc. Brand research is typically conducted by interviewing customers or organizing focus groups. In this way, you can explore different topics in-depth and get feedback from the participants. The results will help you develop brand positioning and improve your marketing assets.

2. Understand your customers better

Sometimes entrepreneurs need better information on the size of their market, their target customers and how best to reach them. We recently completed a study for a client who had developed a new kitchen product and wanted insights on her target market. Here are some of thing we wanted to find out about typical customers for this new product.

  • How old are they?
  • Are they male or female?
  • What is their marital status?
  • Do they have children?
  • Where do they live?
  • What is their level of education?
  • What kind of social media do they use?

We designed a questionnaire to be answered online by 1,000 consumers across Canada.

Electrical apprentice picked to take on the world’s best in prestigious global competition

SCOTLAND’S leading electrical bodies have rushed to congratulate a talented young electrical apprentice who will take on the best in the world at a prestigious global skills competition in France later this year.

Danny McBean, 21, from Dufftown, Morayshire, will face the challenge of a lifetime after being chosen to represent his country at the 47th WorldSkills Competition in Lyon this autumn.

The apprentice, who is employed by Grants (Dufftown) Ltd and attends UHI Moray College in Elgin, made the world finals after scooping gold in the 2023 SkillELECTRIC contest last November.

And his latest achievement has been highly praised by Scotland’s largest construction trade body, SELECT, and the Scottish Electrical Charitable Training Trust (SECTT), which manages apprentice training on behalf of the Scottish Joint Industry Board (SJIB).

Industry skills specialist Fiona Harper, who took over as CEO of SECTT in April, said: “It is terrific news that Danny has been chosen to represent Scotland and its electrical industry at such a huge international event as WorldSkills.

“Young people like him are an example of all that is good in the sector and of the value of the training that is on offer to them – ensuring a healthy pipeline of talent for a future which is so clearly electric.

“Working in partnership with SELECT, the SJIB and Unite the Union, SECTT is established as the premium provider of electrical apprentices and achievements like this demonstrate the extremely high standards that we instil in all learners across Scotland.”

Danny will now join 1,500 competitors from more than 65 countries and regions in Lyon in September, where they will showcase a range of 59 skillsets in front of 1,400 business experts and more than 250,000 visitors.

Several AI tools are used by creative individuals in the industry to streamline their creative processes. AI is not here to replace human creativity but to enhance it. Many use natural language processing tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Co-pilot to generate multiple ideas for a campaign. There are also AI image generation tools like Midjourney, Microsoft’s Bing image generator, and Pika. art. AI-generated voiceovers are also used in several video ads. Eleven Labs is one such tool that has a large library of voice styles to choose from. Another fantastic platform is runwayML which lets creatives edit videos, add motion to still images, and generate lip sync AI videos on a browser-based app.

Although there is a constant tussle between creatives in the industry regarding the superiority between handcrafted V/s AI-generated content. The fact is that AI-generated content is slowly becoming mainstream and new joiners who are comfortable using these tools for their creative processes are appreciated in the industry, especially in companies that focus on new media advertising.
