National Democrats announce a million-a-month investment strategy for state party organizations | News

SALT LAKE CITY – Over the next four years, the Utah Democratic Party here will be $22,500 richer every month as part of the national party’s newly announced “Organize Everywhere, Win Anywhere” strategy.

That financial infusion comes as part of the State Partnership Program (SPP), according to a joint statement issued in Washington by Ken Martin, the chair of the Democratic National Committee, and Jane Kleeb, the president of the Association of State Democratic Committees.

They explained that, as part of an investment in Democratic efforts at state level until the next general election, each state party will receive $17,500 a month from the DNC and Democrats in red states will receive an additional $5,000.

Because red states don’t get much redder than Utah, the Utah Democratic Party is in line to receive that full amount.

“We are breaking ground on a historic political investment unlike anything Democrats have done in modern times,” Martin explained.

“When I ran for DNC chair, I said two things over and over again. First, we have to get the DNC out of the District of Columbia and into the states. Second, we have to organize everywhere to compete everywhere if we’re going to win everywhere.

“This agreement is how we start turning those beliefs into reality,” he added.

The unspoken motivation behind the SPP investment strategy is to counter the growing influence of the so-called Trump revolution in the United States.

During the 2024 general election, President Donald Trump won both the Electoral College count and the popular vote. Trump also won every battleground swing state, including the first win of Nevada by Republicans since 2004.

That was accomplished by Trump driving up his already sky-high margins with his white blue-collar base while making historic inroads into the traditional Democratic base of non-white urban and suburban voters.

The combined investments from the DNC to state organizing and campaign efforts are expected to total more than $1 million a month, the committee’s largest investment in state level politics in history.

“State parties are the backbone of the Democratic Party,” Kleeb said. “Through this investment, our state parties will receive the support they need to show voters that – no matter where they live – there is a strong Democratic Party in their corner, protecting their rights and economic opportunities against Republican attacks.”

National party staffers emphasize that the DNC also makes significant investment into the technology that powers the Democratic Party, including maintaining a national voter database with robust augmentations and giving state parties the best-in-class tools for accessing and leveraging that data.
